Oz-UK non-stop, but not yet ...

Australasian Business Intelligence, April, 2007

Apr 25, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Sir Richard Branson says Virgin Atlantic Airways will be the first operator of non-stop flights between Australia and Britain. Sir Richard committed to the ultra long-haul flights to Perth, and later Sydney and Melbourne, when Virgin announced an order of 15 Boeing 787-9 airplanes to be delivered in 2011. Aviation expert Geoff Thomas says the 787-9 does not have the range to fly non-stop between Sydney and Britain as currently designed. Qantas Airways, which already has 45 787s on order and has purchase rights over another 50, will use the new plane to fly non-stop to the US.
