Health expert warns on "new asbestos".
Australasian Business Intelligence, April, 2007
Byline: Peter Hemphill
Apr 30, 2007 (The Weekly Times - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Professor Ray Kearney, of Sydney University, addressed the Ethanol Australia 2007 conference. The health researcher argued that the E5 and E10 petrol blends do not contain sufficient ethanol to be "clean alternative fuels". Kearney advocated the use of the U85 blend, which contains 15 per cent ethanol. Kearney cited the US Environmental Protection Agency's claim that petrol is the leading source of human-produced carcinogens. He said that tiny particles from vehicle exhausts account for up to one-fifth of cancer deaths in cities.
