A prime example of clustering in Australia is the relationship between Boeing Australia and a large number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), whereby Boeing makes use of the services and expertise of SMEs to help it meet its obligations under the various large contracts it has with the Australian Defence Force, such as the maintenance of the Air Force's aging fleet of F1-11 bombers at Amberley. Peter Freed, of Cirrus Real Time Processing Systems, says his company has gained a lot from being part of the Boeing "cluster".
