May 06, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- An audit of a division of Macquarie University in Sydney has revealed excessive spending. A report by accounting firm, Deloitte, found that Macquarie International spent excessive amounts on travel and entertainment and that funds were used for private purposes. The report said that the unit has been very successful in attracting overseas students but it is operating autonomously from the university and not complying with the university's governance policies. The report has led to three former officers being asked to repay tens of thousands of dollars.
