US productivity up 1.7pc.

May 06, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The US Labor Department reports that productivity increased by 1.7 per cent in the March 2007 quarter. There was a 0.6 per cent per annum increase in the cost of labour. The number of people who received unemployment benefits has fallen to a three-month low, while the Institute for Supply Management's index of non-manufacturing business rose between March and April 2007. The data has assuaged anxiety about a worsening economic slump.
