May 13, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian Labor Party (ALP) industrial relations spokeswoman, Julia Gillard, has refused to withdraw a commitment to abolish Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs). ALP Leader, Kevin Rudd, and ALP resources spokesman, Chris Evans, have met with senior executives of BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Woodside Petroleum, who stated their case for AWAs to be retained, but no commitment was made by Rudd on the issue. Gillard has indicated that the ALP will consult with business over transitional arrangements and details of its policy.
