Monash team starts mapping HIV rise.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007

Byline: Julia Medew

May 13, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The factors responsible for the rising rate of HIV infections in Australia since 2004 will be determined by a team of Victorian scientists. The head of Monash University's infectious disease and epidemiology unit, Dr Karin Leder, said a team of six scientists will work on the project awarded by the Australian Health Protection Committee. It will assess clusters of HIV infections between 2004 and 2006, and determine whether the genotyping of infections could help identify individuals or groups of people responsible for transmitting the virus. The research team will examine infections in high-risk groups such as injecting drug users, homosexual men, migrants and refugees.
