May 02, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Exponents of public-private partnerships (PPPs) say valuable lessons have been learned from the failure of Sydney's Cross City Tunnel project. Due diligence is being conducted more thoroughly on forecasting use of proposed toll roads, along with the political risks involved. ABN Amro calculates that there is enormous potential for such infrastructure arrangements. In Australia about $US113bn of work is possible, while in the US the figure is more than $US1,000bn. The projects awaiting funding include tollways, railroads, airports, hospitals and schools. Funding consortiums are becoming more common to spread the risk.
