Banks break ranks over e-fraud.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007

Byline: Julian Bajkowski and Brendan Swift

May 07, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Bendigo Bank and Suncorp want account holders who have sloppy computer security to be liable for the cost of electronic banking fraud. The action by the two banks puts them in a contrary position to other members of the Australian Bankers Association, who believe that institutions need to educate retail customers on the risks of email "scams". The emphasis in many of the May 2007 submissions to a Federal Government inquiry into fraud is on clients who are repeatedly exposed to fraud.
