The nation scrambles to hang up.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007
May 07, 2007 (Adbrief - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Over 500,000 people tried to access to the new Do Not Call Register on its first day of operation. The volume of traffic caused the $A33 million register to fail, although it was operational again by the next morning. The Australian Government forecasts that in excess of one million people will register online within the web site's first week. The Australian Direct Marketing Association claims that due to exemptions for groups such as charities, political parties and market researchers, the Do Not Call Register will reduce volumes of telemarketing calls by only about 30 per cent.
