Hardware sector shake-up looms.

May 03, 2007 (Inside Retailing - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Speculation of a merger between hardware retailers Mitre 10 and Danks make sense to Jason Baker, of IBISWorld. He says such a merger is logical, although it is not out of the question that a private equity company might make a move for one of the firms first, as the strong cash flows generated by the hardware sector make it an attractive target for these players. He said a merger between Mitre 10 and Danks would provide a bit more competition for Bunnings in the Australian hardware sector, while smaller independent retailers will find it increasingly hard to survive.
