Hang-up for cold calls.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007

May 03, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government had a huge response on the first day of its new "Do Not Call register" on 3 May 2007. From 1 June, businesses will not be allowed to call people by telephone if they have registered with the service. Businesses wanting to call people will need to have their databases washed through the registry for a fee. Australian companies using offshore telemarketers will be fined for breaches of the new regime. The Australian Direct Marketing Association says that exempt bodies are responsible for 70 of unsolicited calls. The range of exemptions are being questioned by critics of the register.
