May 22, 2007 (AFR Smart Investor - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The National Australia Bank (NAB) was named Bank of the Year in the 2007 annual "AFR Smart Investor" banking awards. Bankwest and Suncorp finished as runners-up. Heritage Building Society was named the Building Society of the Year while Newcastle Permanent Building Society and Home Building Society were highly commended. Ahmed Fahour, CEO of the NAB, said the bank was given the award in recognition of its strong focus on customer service.
