Red faces, millions lost as uni closes campus.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007

May 23, 2007 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The University of New South Wales (UNSW) has closed its Singapore campus one month into its first semester. Vice-chancellor Fred Hilmer said, on 23 May 2007, that the decision to open such a campus was always risky and that the university had lost at least $A15 million. The low enrolments did not create enough revenue for the university to pursue development loans. Perhaps more damaging, according to academic commentators, is the loss of face for UNSW in the competitive Asian market.
