May 21, 2007 (The Age - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Hay Group human resources consultancy firm has issued its latest data on salary movements in Australia. The figures in May 2007, derived from a poll of some 340 businesses, indicate that Western Australia (WA) has for the first time taken the top spot in the ranking of states according to salary levels. The main reasons are the resources boom and skilled labour shortage, with mining engineers for instance earning $A122,000 in WA but only $A111,000 in Victoria. Including bonuses, the difference is $A124,000 to $A114,000. Overall, WA employees are earning on average 3 more than those in Victoria, with the gap being 4 to New South Wales and close to 10 to South Australia.
