Sharing the credit.

Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007

Byline: Katrina Nicholas

May 31, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Goldman Sachs JBWere has found that surplus franking credits could be used by many large firms for stock repurchasing. This includes, but is not limited to, AMP, Caltex, Insurance Australia Group, Harvey Norman, Rio Tinto, Tabcorp and Woodside Petroleum. If companies employ share buybacks there will be an impact on the Australian Treasury Department. Ultimately, the Australian Government needs to decide whether it will change the law, or decide what has to be done with franking credits.
