Coalition losing its grip on older voters.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2007
Byline: Laura Tingle
May 31, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Support for the Liberal-National Party coalition is falling as Australians grow older, a demographic study shows. Macquarie University researcher Ian Watson looked at voting patterns between 1987 and 2004. He found that since 1998, about the time baby boomers began entering the ranks of those over the age of 60, the conservative bias of older voters has been declining. Watson expects support for the Australian Labor Party to continue growing as the elderly die and baby boomers age - providing they retain their social reform values.
