May 31, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The "Big Four" Australian accounting firms accepted a range of individuals in its 2007-08 graduate intake. For example, PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia accepted a top musician and an optometrist, while a beauty therapist, an emergency medicine doctor, an Army reserve infantry soldier and an Australian karate champion were among those accepted by Deloitte. In the annual graduate intake, each of the Big Four firms accept between 430 and 500 new accountants to groom. In recent years, the firms have been forced to search outside of the traditional graduate areas of engineering, science and commerce, in order to fill a supply shortage.
