US growth down, consumer spending up.

Jun 03, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- First-quarter growth in US gross domestic product has been reduced from 1.3 to 0.6 per cent. Consumer spending estimates for the quarter have been lifted from 3.8 to 4.4 per cent, contributing to optimism about an economic revival. The Federal Reserve is viewed as unlikely to reduce interest rates given concerns that an economic resurgence would stimulate inflation, which exceeds the central bank's comfort zone of between one and two per cent. A weak housing market has weighed down the US economy. An economic indicator issued by the Chicago Purchasing Managers suggests that manufacturing activity has improved.
