TPG, Silver Lake to buy Avaya for $9.8bn.

Jun 05, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A private equity joint venture will buy a large US computer network group, Avaya. Silver Lake Partners has teamed up with TPG to buy Avaya for $US8.2 billion ($A9.8 billion). Avaya is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In Australia, Avaya technology is used by St George Bank and the Department of Veterans' Affairs. The board of directors of Avaya has recommended that shareholders accept the offer. TPG, formerly known as Texas Pacific Group, was created in 1992.
