Village economy thriving as consumers spurn giants.
Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2007
Jun 08, 2007 (Inside Retailing - ABIX via COMTEX) -- A study conducted by food company Parmalat shows that local shopping centres have regained popularity among Australians. Around 90 per cent of respondents said they shop at their local community stores to support local businesses. Parmalat uses the term "village economy" to describe this type of retailing. Michael Morrison, of Monash University, says the term denotes a collective of community stores. Morrison invites shop owners to participate in his "Fit for Business" seminars, to be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and Northern Territory during June and July 2007.
