Opel bid waves a different standard.
Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2007

Jun 20, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government has awarded the contract for a $A2bn rural broadband network roll-out to the OPEL consortium. It plans to use the WiMax wireless technology in some parts of the country, and had been expected to buy frequency spectrum for this from competitors Austar and Unwired. However, it now appears the latter two will only use the more advanced 802.16e version of WiMax, not OPEL's favoured 802.16d standard. Austar may even set up its own, rival service in regional areas with the technology variant, which is less prone to interference.
