Jun 24, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- On 22 June 2007, Australian Hew Griffiths was found guilty of leading an internet piracy ring and sentenced to 51 months' jail. The case occurred in the US, and Australia's Attorney-General, Philip Ruddock, has said that other similar cases will be prosecuted in Australia. Spokespeople for the internet and copyright applauded the sentencing, while the CEO of the Australian Information Industry Association said the case would make little difference. The president of the Law Institute of Victoria protested the extradition of an Australian whose crime resulted in no profit and was not violent.
