Sub-prime tempest shakes investors.

Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2007

Byline: Corinne Lim

Jun 27, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The state of the sub-prime mortgage market in the US is again under scrutiny. This follows revelations that investment bank Bear Stearns was forced to bail out two of its hedge funds that have exposure to the sector. Concern about sub-prime mortgages first emerged in February 2007. The problems in this sector have the potential to prompt a sharp downturn in the sharemarket, although the strength of the European and Asian economies should be sufficient to allay immediate concerns about the outlook for the global economy.
