Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2007
Jun 27, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The US corporate regulator has investigated the sub-prime mortgage market. On 27 June 2007, Christopher Cox, the chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission, told a legislative committee that the regulator has about 12 open investigations into the sub-prime market, including debt issuers and the secondary market for instruments such as collateralised debt obligations. There is increasing scrutiny of the $US1 trillion ($A1.2 trillion) market because of rising default levels on sub-prime mortgage loans.
