Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2007

Jun 28, 2007 (Retail World - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian milk market grew by 4.8 per cent in the year to December 2006 to be worth about $A1.57 billion, according to AC Nielsen. Parmalat, with 19 per cent value share, is the best performing milk brand, followed by National Foods and Dairy Farmers. The last-named firm has become the first major milk supplier to include a freshness seal on its white milk products. A notable feature of the milk market is the large share held by private label brands (44 per cent), while Australians are one of the world's most ardent drinkers of flavoured milk. Jai Sanderson, of Dairy Farmers, suggests this is due to Australians associating flavoured milk with their childhood.
