Jul 02, 2007 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- BHP Billiton has rejected allegations that it bulldozed a Colombian town to construct the Cerrejon coal mine. It says the townsfolk were evicted from the site before it was involved. Lawyers representing several thousand rural Colombians served BHP with a formal notice of the allegations on 2 July 2007. The OECD has also been given an affidavit and is expected to investigate the matter. Xstrata and Anglo American are equal partners with BHP in the Cerrejon project.
