Jul 05, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian sharemarket posted solid gains on 5 July 2007, with the S&P/ASX 200 rising 63.7 points to close at 6,362.3. The All Ordinaries Index finished 59.6 points higher at 6,392.2. A rise in the price of copper and crude oil bolstered the resources sector, with Rio Tinto gaining $A2.16 to close at $A102.51 and BHP Billiton up $A0.70 at a new high of $A37.10. Zinifex advanced $A0.86 to close at $A20, but United Group eased $A0.55 to $A17.20.
