Jul 05, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Japan's Kirin group has confirmed that it is interested in buying Australian dairy and juice assets from San Miguel Corporation (SMC). However, private equity players, including The Carlyle Group, are also believed to have expressed interest. Philippines-based SMC is seeking to raise cash by selling off all or part of National Foods (NF), which incorporates juice maker Berri. It wants to release funds to invest in mining and electricity assets. SMC could get up to $A2.5bn from selling NF outright but may choose to release only 49 per cent. SMC also owns Tasmanian brewer J Boag & Son.
