Takeover windfalls caught in the vortex.

Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007

Jul 08, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Takeovers of large listed Australian companies can erode diversity on the stock market. There is a risk that the interest in acquiring industrial stocks will skew the market, which is already biased toward large banks and resource companies. Chris Pidcock, of Goldman Sachs JBWere, expects the demand for equities to reach $A95.6 billion in 2007-08, up from $A81.3 billion in 2006-07. Demand will be heightened by the proposed takeovers of Rinker Group and Coles Group. Many fund managers view James Hardie Industries and Adelaide Brighton as worthwhile investments.
