Higher education gap needs fixing.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007
Jul 10, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australia must seriously analyse the conclusions of demographer Bob Birrell about higher education and the nation's labour-force needs. Birrell, from Monash University, has highlighted that 80 per cent of the growth in the number of students enrolled at Australian universities has been from overseas students paying full fees. He claims that there is a large unmet need for education places and that domestic students face significant disincentives. However, many other researchers and educators dispute Birrell's conclusions. Australia needs an accurate understanding to plan for the future. Editorial.
