Retailers urged to consider collective bargaining over lease terms.

Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007

Jul 16, 2007 (Inside Retailing - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Graeme Samuel says he cannot understand why shopping centre tenants do not want to engage in collective bargaining. Samuel, the chair of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), says he often hears that retailers feel unhappy about the leasing terms they are offered by landlords, and that collective bargaining helps to strengthen the position of small retailers in such situations. He says the ACCC has made it much easier for small businesses to engage in collective bargaining, as have recent changes to the Trade Practice Act.
