Debunking myths about employees with disability.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007
Jul 16, 2007 (Benchmarking HR - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Workers with a disability are not an increased occupational health and safety risk. A recently released report, prepared by the Australian Safety & Compensation Council and titled "Are People With Disability at Risk at Work?", shows that workers with a disability have a lower number of occupational heath and safety (OHS) incidents than other workers. Graeme Innes, Commissioner responsible for Disability Discrimination at the 2005 Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission, said concerns about OHS risks in relation to disabled staff are unfounded.
