Consumers warned of big price rises for groceries.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007
Jul 16, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Food groups have warned Australians to be prepared for higher food costs. They note that farmers and manufacturers have no choice but to pass on higher labour and petrol costs. They add that the prolonged drought in Australia has restricted supply and driven up the price of grains. National Foods has warned that the prices of milk and dairy foods will rise by 20% to 25% in coming months. Grocery groups say that food price rises are unpopular but prices have been held down for some time and this is no longer sustainable.
