Jul 16, 2007 (The West Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- National Foods, Australia's largest milk processor, has warned it will have to pass on cost increases for dairy farmers associated with the drought. This means milk prices could rise by up to 25%, with expectations the price of a two-litre carton of milk could increase from between $A2.50 and $A2.60 to over $A3 over the next six months. National Foods said farmers have already passed on the increased cost of feed, with farm gate prices for milk rising by around $A0.10 a litre to between $A0.40 and $A0.45 a litre. The Western Australian Farmers Federation says grain costs for the state's dairy farmers have risen by 30% over the past 18 months.
