Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2007

Byline: Fleur Anderson

Jul 16, 2007 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- It has been revealed that there are many complaints about the service of the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). An internal ATO document has been leaked, revealing hundreds of complaints from taxpayers and staff. It claims that there is a waiting list of up to 70,000 income tax return amendments. The report blames third parties, such as the Child Support Agency, for many delays. The Ombudsman has also called on the ATO to give taxpayers clearer explanations for decisions and to reduce delays.
