China takeover talk fuels Santos.

Dec 08, 2008 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Santos appears to have become a takeover target for China National Petroleum Corporation as head of a consortium that may pay as much as $A8bn. In late November 2008, the South Australian Government abolished the cap of 15% on any individual stockholdings in the oil and gas group, whose coalbed methane tenements are especially attractive. On 8 December 2008 its stock closed 9% higher at $A13.25.
