Jun 01, 2009 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- General Motors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on 1 June 2009. The US Government hopes the move will pave the way for a restructure of the country's automotive sector, although analysts have questioned the likely impact of the failure on rivals Ford and Toyota.
