Jun 21, 2009 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Some of Australia's most prestigious universities have experienced a sharp downturn in donations in 2009. The University of Melbourne received a total of $A22.8m in donations and gifts in 2008, an increase of 24 per cent, but there has been a 40 per cent fall so far in 2009. However, there has been an increase in donations to the university's alumni appeal.
