Review board shy on big foreign intervention.
Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2009
Byline: Mathew Murphy
Jun 23, 2009 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Patrick Colmer of the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) appeared before a Senate inquiry into foreign investment on 23 June 2009. He sought to downplay concerns about Chinese investment in Australia, noting that the US and the UK still account for the bulk of offshore investments. Colmer also said the FIRB prefers overseas investors to pursue joint ventures or relatively small stakes rather than large-scale investments such as Rio Tinto's aborted deal with Chinalco.
