Some chemical plants will shut down on New Year's Eve.
Industrial Maintenance & Plant Operation, November, 1999 by Carter, Rick
As a precaution against potential Y2K-related uncertainties, some chemical manufacturers said they will temporarily shut down a portion of their operations on New Year's Eve 1999. At least four companies -- Rhone Poulenc, DuPont, Monsanto Co., and Ashland Chemical -- have said that while their plants are Y2K-compliant, concern for power availability and other potential Y2K problems, especially with regard to the production of highly toxic chemicals, influenced their decisions.
Production is expected to resume after January 1.
