New OSHA management plan calls for greater reductions in workplace fatalities, injuries. (Industry Newsline).

OSHA announced a new strategic management plan last month that includes goals calling for a 15% drop in workplace fatalities and a 20%. drop in injuries and illnesses by 2008. Announced by Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, John Henshaw, the plan is designed to meet these goals by using direct intervention, compliance assistance, and by strengthening its capabilities and infrastructure.

According to Henshaw, each year, OSHA will emphasize specific areas to achieve its broader goal. The plan also covers issues not traditionally addressed by the agency, such as workplace violence and work-related motor-vehicle accidents.
