EPA eases air-pollution rule for older factories.(Industry Newsline)

The Bush administration eased a key air-pollution rule last month for older factories. Affecting more than 500 older power plants and 20,000 factories and refineries, the rule-change allows operators of these facilities to make significant equipment upgrades without installing costly pollution-control equipment, a requirement under earlier EPA rulings. Critics, including environmental groups and state governments, claimed the new rule will allow industry to add more pollutants to the air.
