DOE awards $2.6 million for boiler-efficiency research.(INDUSTRY NEWSLINE)

Industrial Maintenance & Plant Operation, October, 2005

The U.S. Department of Energy has selected three new combustion-technology research and development projects for industrial boilers that will receive nearly $2.6 million in total cost-shared funding over the next two years. The selected R&D teams plan to develop industrial boilers with enhanced performance that will cut energy use 7% by 2020. The DOE estimated this would save industry $2 billion per year in energy costs.

Organizations that will share the funding include Babcock and Wilcox, Barberton, OH; the Gas Technology Institute, Des Plaines, IL; and Reaction Engineering International, Salt Lake City, UT. In 2007, one or two of the projects will be selected for field testing.
