SWITZERLAND Waterford Wedgwood, the premier crystal and china company, including its china brand Rosenthal, recently announced its acquisition of the Spring brand, of Spring AG, a Swiss luxury cookware company.

Spring is a market leader in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and The Netherlands. In 2000, Spring reported sales of 31.5 [euro] million. Under the terms of the agreement, Waterford Wedgwood will acquire the Spring name, its patents and trademarks, a majority stake in the Spring U.S. distribution company, in addition to inventory, equipment and tooling.

Waterford Wedgwood intends to establish a new company in Switzerland to handle sales and marketing of Spring.
