HUA HIN, THAILAND When Hilton International took over management of a 296-room resort in the historic seaside town of Hua Hin, 124 miles (200 km) south of Bangkok, in November 2000, the goal was to refurbish the entire property "to introduce a new level of Thai hospitality, service and ambience," according to Dirk De Cuyper, general manager of the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. In addition to overhauling all the public spaces, restaurants, exterior landscaping and guestrooms, the Hilton team, led by Bangkok-based design firm P49, added a state-of-the-art, 12,917-sq-ft (1,200-sq-m) spa complete with 10 treatment rooms.
