LONDON In an interesting parallel, if not trend, both Hilton Group and InterContinental Hotels Group announced they had gone outside the industry to find their new appointments for the chief executive's seat. Ian Carter was named CEO of Hilton International Hotels in early December, assuming the role formerly held by the late Anthony Harris. About a week later, IHG announced Andrew Cosslett had been selected by its board as the new chief executive, replacing Richard North, who was ousted in September. Both men possess a strong brand management background; both come from the retail sector; and both assumed responsibilities for their global brands in predominantly the EMEA region. Neither has a hotel background.
