GREEN BAY, WI -- A short walk from its corporate offices here, the new ShopKo prototype store reflects the specialty discounter's refocused and customer-friendly format.
One of eight stores to undergo renovations, this location has a more pulled together and modular domestics department, which had previously been L-shaped. The 126,000 sq. ft. store also added a third entrance and took advantage of an addition that was used for storage.
Though the domestics department as a whole is one of the "top two or three families of businesses for growth," said Rick Ausick, senior vp, gmm, home, specific areas that the retailer plans to increase are fashion bedding, table linens and kitchen textiles and soft window.
