Sony names licensees for new show 'Astro Boy'.(Brief Article)

Culver City, Calif. -- Sony Pictures Consumer Products has named several licensees for its new television property "Astro Boy," the story of a robot boy who becomes a reluctant superhero. The series will debut on Kids' WB! in the beginning of 2004. "Astro Boy" was created 50 years ago by Osamu Tezuka, a pioneer in the Japanese animation style of anime, and was first brought to the United States in 1963.
"Astro Boy brings together two of the hottest trends in licensing today--retro and anime--and we're very excited that he is coming back to television with an all new anime series on Kids' WB!," said Al Ovadia, executive vice president of Sony Pictures Consumer Products.
