Re Andrew Cook's article `The Search for the Real 007' (November 2002), Graham Greene, in his introduction to Kim Philby's autobiography My Secret War, recalls that Ian Fleming once confided to him that the role model for 007 was not Sidney Reilly but the Soviet master-spy Kim Philby. Greene had a soft spot for Phliby who once went out of his way to save Greene's job at MI6.
